From Schönried railway station, walk to the Rellerli car park. From there, take the winter hiking trail to Burstfang and continue up to Bergmatte and finally to Grossi Vorschess. After a hike of about 1 hour and 15 minutes, you will reach the large, wooden fondue caquelon, which can seat up to eight people. Direct access by car is not permitted.

Return route: You can hike back to Schönried via the same route or extend the winter hike to Rellerli and then back to Schönried.

  • Approach

    The holiday region Gstaad is located in the south-west of Switzerland right on the border to the French-speaking part of the country. The region is easily accessed by rail or car from the regions around Lake Thun and Lake Geneva and the Gruyere region Direct connections to the European high-speed rail network and all international airports in Switzerland guarantee a time-saving and pleasant journey. The main means of transport in the region Gstaad are the "MOB" (Montreux-Oberland Bernois) train and numerous post bus lines.

  • Follow current winter hiking trail reports ("Schönried – Grossi Vorschess – Hugeli - Schönried")
  • The Fondue Backpack (order the fondue backpack the day before during the opening hours of any of the following dairies: Schönried Dairy, Fromage & Pain Saanen, Gstaad Dairy, Zweisimmen Dairy), good footwear, beverages.

    The Fondue Backpack contains all of the ingredients needed for the irresistible outdoor experience: a full set of preparation equipment, either a traditional thick fondue or a particularly flavoursome truffle fondue, as well as crusty fondue bread, spices, fondue pot, warmer, plates and forks.
