Ueli Hauswirth Scherenschnitte

Traditional paper cutting depicting the native wildlife, alpine animal drives, and life in our mountainous region, as well as silhouette portraits.

Ueli Hauswirth was born in Saanenmöser and grew up in Ebnit between Gstaad and Saanen. In the Hauswirth family stairwell hung four paper cuttings from around 1925. Later, three additional paper cuttings by Christian Schwizgebel adorned the Hauswirth family home. Ueli was particularly taken by a Jugendstil paper cutting of a boy playing a flute competing with a bird, which inspired him.

Music was a popular pastime in the Hauswirth household. Every child played an instrument, thus finding access to classical music. Drawing tools were also important leisure instruments for Ueli. An experience as a small boy sparked his interest in cutting paper. This enthusiasm for paper cutting has remained to this day.
