Silence and seclusion are the highlights of this hike.

"I believe, I will go again - to Lauenesee," sing Span in their classic from 1983. Anyone who does this winter hike will certainly agree with the Bernese dialect rockers afterwards - and come back. The path starts in Lauenen (1,241 m above sea level), in the heart of the Saanenland, directly at the Hotel Alpenland. A detour to the charming mountain village is worth it: it is characterized by old, well-preserved chalets and its church from the 16th century.

After leaving Lauenen, the route goes on snowy paths and meadows through several forest sections uphill to the idyllically located Lauenensee. The nature reserve is of national importance and a true winter wonderland. Beneath the snow cover is alpine moorland, with individual fir trees rising through the thick white layer. The famous and often-sung lake lies amidst untouched mountain landscape. It offers a view of impressive waterfalls and the imposing Spitzhorn. The area around Lauenensee is also considered a place of power.

The return route leads along the road on the opposite valley side. It descends gently from Twäregg towards the valley floor. The view sweeps down the valley and deep into the valley of the Louwibach. You pass Rohr, a nature reserve with flat marshland. The plain, which is crossed by cross-country ski trails and hiking paths, is also a worthwhile destination in winter. The paved little road leads down in wide curves, past the holiday settlement of Fängli, back to Lauenen.
